From the time I was a little boy, my path was being molded and influenced by the generation I was born into: who my parents were and the way they were raised, their economic status, where I grew up in the world, the religion I was raised to follow, my skin color and gender, what I was learning in school. Every factor was entirely out of my control as a child, yet each aspect was responsible for shaping my opinions, morals, values, traditions, desires, passions, perceptions, and fears. All this was happening to me as I became a young man: I was a programmed version of myself. It’s who I thought I was. After all, I knew nothing else. But then I began to realize how my upbringing affected me and how I would bear the consequences of all the inexcusable choices my parents made. I would spend the rest of my life trying to undo the emotional damage I endured all those years. I was just a young innocent boy.

Taking my life into my own hands, I re-evaluated all the things that had defined the person I was at that point. It was then I decided to create the new me, the Jack OUT of the Box.

Armed with blind ambition but little knowledge of life beyond the provincial confines of New Orleans, Victor Schmitt boarded a plane, leaving behind his hometown and broken family to search for the answer to the age-old, unnerving question, “What am I going to do with my life?

With little money and big dreams, he landed in Milan, Italy, and started a career that would span 30 years and 26 countries. Working as a successful model and actor in runway shows, print ads and commercials for the world’s top clothing designers, he found his destiny and gained insight into how the rest of the world lives and thinks.

Since returning home to start life as an agent, opening Victor’s International Model and Talent Management, Victor has expanded his career portfolio to include work as a writer, fashion editor, producer and photographer. He continues to question life and travel the world every chance he gets. Jack in the Box is his first book.
